Going off-grid implies living in a self-sufficient and autonomous manner without having to rely on an external supply from a third party. With the growing availability of solar panels and renewable energy technologies, many people associate off-grid lifestyles with buildings that produce their own energy needs. All-in-all, once you get everything set up, living off-grid is a cheaper way to live. Renewable energy is cost-effective, living off the land food-wise is cheaper (but takes more maintenance).
With the support of EVONIK Industries (responsible for future materials), ESA (European Space Agency), the DLR (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt) we are developing a modular training center for astronauts / engineers / scientists for the next missions on the moon / mars and the earth orbit. This training center, based on the off the grid philosophy, has to work in the hottest deserts / at the South Pole / North Pole. Thus, all imaginable hostile environments are possible. One important question will surely be, how can people work together and live more easily in these extreme environments.
Is brand new that our studio will become part of the SpaceShip EAC (European Astronaut Center).
The SpaceShip is part of the long-term “Networking / Partnering Initiative” (NPI) with which the European Space Agency promotes promising inventions and research projects.
Special concepts are processed in the SpaceShip these are for example:
- Energy production and storage,
- Physical exercise hardware and fitness training concepts,
- ISRU (in situ resource utilizatio) prospecting, recycling and additive manufacturing,
- Life support and living and work infrastructure concepts
When we think of the buildings of the future, we often think of steep, stylish, and contemporary designs that are connected and customizable but yet leave enough room for privacy.
This thesis is about good flexible sustainable design. The vision represents the future of sustainable living and harmonious comfort. Here it will be important to examine a new 100% environmentally friendly, future-oriented standard, of living and working.
