The reading of texts on and about architecture and the city is one of the foundations for the work of architects and urban planners. Acquiring knowledge about themes and debates - and perhaps even writing one's own contributions to current debates – helps to understand and approach the complex and broad field of the city, its development and its manifold facets.

The critical reading of specialist literature, current trade journals, but also current daily newspapers and articles on the internet is part of the everyday life of every architect and urban planner and thus should be perceived as one of the working methods of architects and urban planners.

The aim of the elective is to convey the basics of analytical reading and writing (both descriptive and analytical). This includes methods of scientific work, the acquisition and the understanding of terms and debates - current and historical as well as writing methods and tools.
