The module mobile communication systems is taught every winter term and is a mandatory module in the course Electrical and Computing Engineering as well as in the double degree Communication and Embedded Systems.
It is conducted in English only.
In the "classical" part of the lecture, the basics of mobile communication systems are explained on the basis of a GSM network. Hereby the channel structure and used modulation schemes at the Air-interface are discussed. Next, the main components of the mobile core network are handled.
In the practical part of the module, several lab exercises in a live GSM cell are performed as well as practical experiments in a IEEE 802.11 WLAN network, as well as a simple Bluetooth application, is developed.
Further students have do conduct a written assignment on the actual topics of WLAN, Bluetooth and IoT networks.
